Tampa International Airport Enhances Passenger Experience with Digital Signage
The Challenge
Tampa International Airport (TIA), recognized as the #1 large North American airport in 2022, faced challenges with outdated and static signage across its terminals. With an increasing number of travelers, the airport needed a modern, dynamic system to provide real-time updates and improve the overall passenger experience. Traditional signage was unable to deliver the necessary level of engagement and efficient information sharing for travelers navigating the expansive airport.
The Solution
In partnership with AVI-SPL, TIA undertook a major digital signage overhaul. The airport introduced LED video walls strategically placed in high-traffic areas like the main terminal and baggage claim. These screens display real-time flight information, gate changes, and other critical details, keeping passengers informed. Interactive wayfinding kiosks were installed throughout the airport, allowing travelers to easily find their gates, amenities, and services with up-to-date information. Outdoor video walls were added in the cell phone lot to provide live updates on incoming flights, ensuring those picking up passengers had current flight status. Additionally, a 216-inch NanoLumens LED video wall was installed in the event center, featuring advanced technology for presentations and community events.
The Impact
The digital signage upgrades at TIA significantly improved both passenger satisfaction and operational efficiency. Passengers now benefit from clear, real-time information, reducing confusion and enhancing their overall airport experience. The centralized content management system allows staff to update displays instantly, streamlining communication throughout the airport. Furthermore, the new signage opened new revenue opportunities through targeted advertising, benefiting the airport and its commercial partners. TIA has also seen a reduction in delays and operational hiccups, as real-time updates ensure more accurate and timely information.
“One of the best parts of my job is what’s to come around the corner. Knowing what our master plan is, I get to think of what new technology we can bring to this airport. This project has so much of my heart and soul, and that’s what it’s all about. Being cutting-edge. And being the best of the best for our customers.”
